The present invention provides a method which suggests stimulation to a user using information on user environment, acquires an electroencephalogram signal of the user with regard to the suggested stimulation, and controls a display apparatus based on the acquired electroencephalogram signal; and a display apparatus. According to the method for controlling a display apparatus, and the display apparatus following an embodiment of the present invention, a user can control the display apparatus more conveniently by suggesting proper stimulation according to the information on user environment, and control the display apparatus with high accuracy according to user intention.
