A body rail for a motor vehicle according to the present invention is made of a fiber-reinforced plastic and is designed as a body rail which absorbs energy in the event of a motor vehicle collision. The body rail has at least one wall which is provided with recesses and/or raised portions in such a way that when a defined collision threshold load is applied in a longitudinal direction of the body rail the wall fails by fragmentation near the recesses and/or raised portions.
