PURPOSE: A drive device for a liquid crystal display device and a drive method thereof are provided to improve visual contrast of a displayed image by extending contrast of image data according to analyzed luminance information. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal panel(2) comprises plural pixel areas. A data driver drives plural data lines. The gate driver(6) drives plural gate lines. An image conversion processor(10) converts gradation level of caption data according to dimming control signal. A timing controller(8) controls a gate driver and a data driver according to data control signals and gate control signals. A backlight unit(18) emits light on a liquid crystal panel according dimming control signals.
