摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber in which an inexpensive and small solenoid can be used and a damping force can be actively controlled. <P>SOLUTION: The shock absorber includes: a shock absorber body D which includes a cylinder, a piston slidably inserted in the cylinder and partitioning the inside of the cylinder 2 into a compression-side chamber filled with liquid and an elongation-side chamber, and a piston rod 4 inserted in the cylinder and connected to the piston, and is placed between the vehicle body and the axle of a saddle riding type vehicle; a flow passage 5 making the liquid pass through during either the elongation or compression period of the shock absorber body D or both the periods; and a damping force control mechanism V which is disposed in the middle of the flow passage 5 and controls the damping force generated by the shock absorber body. The damping force control mechanism V includes a spool valve 7 and the solenoid 8, and the spool valve 7 includes a spool valve body 21 and a magnetic member 22 integrated with the spool valve body 21 and acting as the movable iron core of the solenoid 8.
