PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide effective antinausea and antiemetic formulations which have few side effects and permit use of therapeutic agents to effectively treat a condition or illness.SOLUTION: Methods in accordance with the invention include treating gastrointestinal adverse side effects associated with treatment by anti-retroviral agent characterized by administering opioid antagonists of sufficient amount to treat drug induced gastrointestinal side effects together with the anti-retroviral agent to patients suffering from gastrointestinal adverse side effects associated with treatment with the anti-retroviral agent. The method of claim 1, wherein the side effects are nausea, emesis, or both of them.
