a device for monitoring the subscriber premises, the device including a diplex filter including a lowpass filter, defining an upstream band and a highpass filter defining a downstream band, a switching device, and a decoder having an input/output (I/O) port coupled to the I/O port of the node to receive and decode switching signals from the network, and output ports, the switching device including a first switch selectively to disconnect the lowpass filter, an output port of the decoder operating the first switch, the decoder adapted to receive a signal from a signal source to open the first switch, sequentially from subscriber node to subscriber node, sequentially to disconnect the lowpass filters at the subscribers' premises from the network one at a time and then to close the first switch(es), sequentially to reconnect the subscribers' premises to the network to assist in determining a source of RF noise in the system. |
