A projection type image display device is provided with: a light source unit (110) that outputs light; an image generating unit that generates image light corresponding to an image input signal; a light guide optical system that guides the light from the light source unit to the image generating unit; and a projection optical system that projects the image light generated by the image generating unit. The light source unit (110) has: a light source (12) that generates light; phosphors (20) that are excited by the light from the light source; and a dichroic mirror (18) that guides the light from the light source to the phosphors. The dichroic mirror (18) is disposed such that the angle of incidence from the light source (12) is 50 - 60°. |
