PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve speed.SOLUTION: A comparator is composed of: a first amplification unit which amplifies difference between signals input to respective gate electrodes of a pair of first and second transistors and outputs the amplified difference; and a second amplification unit which amplifies a signal output from the first amplification unit. Connection using a fifth transistor and sixth transistor is switched to connection with a drain of a third transistor or connection with a drain of a fourth transistor, depending on whether in a period where auto-zero operation in the first and second amplification units is performed in parallel or in a period for converting a pixel signal of a signal level to a digital signal and a period for converting a pixel signal of a reset level to a digital signal. The technology can be applied to a CMOS image sensor, for example.
