PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a solid catalyst ingredient for olefin polymerization which has a high catalytic activity in gas-phase polymerization, is suppressed in polymerization initial activity and produces less fine powder in a produced polymer and exerts the activity durably.SOLUTION: A method of producing a solid catalyst ingredient includes a I step of bringing a phthalic acid diester into contact with an alkoxy magnesium at 0°C or lower in a ratio of 0.02-0.15 mol of the phthalic acid diester to 1 mol of the alkoxy magnesium and a II step of bringing the contacted product of the alkoxy magnesium with the phthalic acid diester obtained in the I step into contact with titanium halide compound to react together. |
