PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of assessing deterioration of external materials, which does not require a dedicated measurement device and enables; appropriate correction for change in surrounding environment such as sunlight and weather; accurate assessment of a degree of dirtiness; and comprehensive deterioration assessment including assessment of dirtiness and cracks.SOLUTION: An exterior material 4 of a building and a known color body 1 such as a color chart are photographed together using digital image capturing means such as a digital camera. Color correction is applied to a color of the captured image using a color of the image of known color body 1 appearing in the image, and the corrected color is converted to a numerical value. Color difference, which is a difference between the numerical value of the corrected color of the exterior material 4 and a numerical value of a color of the exterior material 4 before becoming dirty or the like and includes at least a numerical value of brightness difference, is derived to assess a degree of dirtiness therefrom. The image, or another separately captured image, is binarized to determine an extent of cracks on the exterior material 4. The determined extent of cracks and the degree of dirtiness are comprehensively evaluated to assess a level of deterioration and remaining life of the exterior material 4. |
