A method and terminal for transmitting a multimedia service. The method comprises: a terminal acquiring a currently available network transmission rate, and acquiring a decoding output bitrate of multimedia content of which the service attributes are identical to those of an applied multimedia service; the terminal at least sending a smaller value of the acquired network transmission rate and the decoding output bitrate of the multimedia content to a multimedia service provider; and the terminal receiving multimedia service content matched and sent by the multimedia service provider according to the smaller value of the network transmission rate of the terminal and the decoding output bitrate.
