HOUSING COMPONENTS FOR ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Electronic devices are provided with a protective housing having one or more housing components. A housing component can be formed from a single sheet of material to appear as if the housing component had been formed from a hollowed out solid block of material. The sheet of material may be deep drawn, forged, and machined to form the housing component. One or more holes may be formed through a portion of the housing component to provide an I/O interface.

a housing wall having an external surface and an internal surface separated by a material thickness, the housing wall at least partially defining an internal volume within which an electronic component is disposed, anda port comprising a passageway defined at least in part by a port wall that extends into the internal volume a distance d, the passageway extending between a first opening disposed at the external surface and a second opening leading into the internal volume, the distance d being substantially greater than the material thickness of the housing wall such that a portion of the passageway observable through the first opening increases an apparent thickness of the housing wall at the first opening that is greater than the material thickness of the housing wall.
