PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus capable of improving efficiency in shimming work, and to provide a gradient magnetic field coil.SOLUTION: The magnetic resonance imaging apparatus includes: a static magnetic field magnet; a gradient magnetic field coil; and a shim housing part. The static magnetic field magnet generates a static magnet field in a space in an almost cylindrical inner part. The gradient magnetic field coil is disposed inside the static magnetic field magnet and generates a gradient magnetic fields. The shim housing part can house a metal shim. The shim housing part is formed into a shape in which attraction force of the static magnetic field under excitation applied to the shim housing part is smaller than a predetermined threshold value.
