A transport block (20), which transports a recording medium between a slot (15) and a drive block (16), is provided with: a recording medium transfer block (50) which transfers the recording medium to and from the slot (15) or the drive block (16); an expandable rail portion capable of moving the recording medium transfer block to a desired slot; and a control block (17) which performs expansion operation control of the rail portion (31). The control block (17) determines whether or not a slot (15) has been provided in an expansion region provided in the direction of extension of the rail portion (31), and if the slot (15) has been provided in the expansion region, expands the rail portion (31) so as to be capable of moving the recording medium transfer block (50) to the desired slot in the expansion region. Thus, it becomes possible to efficiently house a recording medium and perform changing operations.
