A gripping device 5, such as a split clamp, sealing device and/or structural support, is configured to grip, engage or fix onto a pipe, pipeline, conduit or other elongate member 45. The gripping device 5 includes one or more gripping mechanisms 25a, 25a, 25b, 25b configured to grip onto the pipe and first and second parts 10a, 10b, wherein the first and second parts 10a, 10b are disposed so as to circumferentially surround the pipe. The gripping mechanism may comprise a ball gripping mechanism wherein balls are held by a cage and are moved relative to the gripping device by the cage, and move up ramp formations in the gripping device thereby being urged into contact with the pipe. The gripper may support a damaged section of pipe, seal a pipe, or mount a flange, T-piece or valve to the pipe.. |
