[Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Group IV] A froth flotation process is carried out in the presence of one or more substantially waterinsoluble mercaptides in which the sulphur bonded mercaptan hydrogen is replaced by a metal other than a alkali metal. The mercaptides may be obtained by reacting mercaptans, which may be alkyl, aralkyl, or aryl mercaptans, for example, a crude oil refinery mercaptan mixture, with base metal salts particularly acetates. In some cases, the ore and mercaptide may be ground together and subsequently subjected to flotation. The preparation of lead, zinc, mercury, iron, calcium, nickel, and cadmium mercaptides of a number of specified mercaptans is referred to.</p> |
