PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately focus on a subject while zooming the subject.SOLUTION: An imaging device comprises: a variable magnification lens system; a lens variable magnification control part that performs a variable magnification control of the variable magnification lens system; a focusing part for focusing on a subject observed by the variable magnification lens system; an image pickup element that captures an image of the subject via a lens optical system; and a control part that controls the focusing part and the lens variable magnification control part in cooperation with each other on the basis of a change in image data to be output from the image pickup element during performing of the variable magnification control of the variable magnification lens system to a telephoto side.
