PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce troubles resulting from contacting/leaving motions between a sheet sending-out rotary body and sheet materials while suppressing multiple-sheet feeding by reducing unnecessary contacting/leaving motions.SOLUTION: An FRR type recording paper feeder 40 detects, by an encoder 76 and an encoder sensor 77, whether multiple-sheet feeding where a plurality of sheets of recording paper are sent by a pickup roller 61 into a separation nip between a feed roller 63 and a reverse roller 69 occurs or not, and keeps the pickup roller and an upper surface of recording paper in contact with each other until the pickup roller starts sending next recording paper out on detecting no multiple-sheet feeding occurring during feeding of one sheet of recording paper in continuous feeding, but separates the pickup roller and the upper surface of the recording paper from each other on detecting multiple-sheet feeding occurring during feeding of one sheet of recording paper. |
