The present invention provides an apparatus and a method for preventing a crash while driving. The apparatus for preventing the crash while driving includes: a first sensing unit for sensing the height of a present obstacle in the air according to the height of a present vehicle while driving; a control unit which receives information of the height of the present obstacle in the air by the height of the present vehicle sensed by the first sensing unit and has a height range of a reference obstacle in the air by the height of a preset reference vehicle; a first determining unit for determining whether or not the information of the height of the present obstacle in the air by the height of the present vehicle sensed by the first sensing unit is smaller than the height range of the reference obstacle in the air by the height of the reference vehicle through control of the control unit; and a first alarm unit for informing that the present vehicle collides against the present obstacle in the air when the height information of the present obstacle in the air by the height of the present vehicle determined in the first determining unit is smaller than the height range of the reference obstacle in the air by the height of the reference vehicle.
