PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an alkaline electrolytic water of a pH higher than 13 efficiently in a diaphragm type electrolytic bath.SOLUTION: An electrolytic apparatus includes an electrolytic bath 1 in which an anode 5 and a cathode 6 are arranged each in two electrolytic chambers 2 and 3 divided with a ceramic diaphragm 4 allowing only cations to pass through, electrolyte aqueous solution supply means 7 for supplying an electrolyte aqueous solution W1 containing an electrolyte, e.g. potassium carbonate or sodium carbonate, to the first electrolytic chamber 2, water supply means 8 for supplying water W to the second electrolytic chamber 3, electrolytic voltage application means 9 for applying an electrolytic voltage across the anode 5 and the cathode 6, electrolytic condition adjustment means 10 for adjusting electrolytic conditions to cause cations produced in the first electrolytic chamber 2 to pass through the second electrolytic chamber 3 through the ceramic diaphragm 4 so as to form an alkaline electrolytic water W2 of a pH higher than 13 and discharge carbonate ion produced in the first electrolytic chamber 2 as carbon dioxide and discharging means 11 for discharging carbon dioxide produced in the first electrolytic chamber 2 and hydrogen produced in the second electrolytic chamber 3. |
