A male luer for connection with a female luer valve having a contact surface, the male luer comprising:
a tubular member (104);
a resilient member (106) disposed coaxially with the tubular member (104) and forming a flow channel (124); and
an internal plug (154) having a radial protrusion (158) inserted into a radial pocket (156) in the resilient member (106); the radial pocket (156) being arranged such that:
the resilient member (106) urges the internal plug into a first position preventing fluid flow into the flow channel (124) when the male luer is not engaged with the female luer; and
engagement of the male luer with the female luer causes the female luer's contact surface to push backward the radial pocket (156) and the radial protrusion (158), thus actuating the plug (154) into a second position that allows fluid flow into the flow channel (124). |
