BERAPROST ISOMER AS AN AGENT FOR THE TREATMENT OF VIRAL INFECTION

In various embodiments the use of single isomer of beraprost as a therapeutic for the treatment of viral disease and other pathologies associated with the induction of a cytokine storm, such as influenza A viruses and the SARS-causing coronvirus and mutations thereof is provided.

A method of treating a viral disease associated with the induction of immune response comprised of large amounts of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IFN-γ, IL-10, IL-6, and CCL2, a ‘cytokine storm’, in a subject in need of such treatment, said method comprising administering, or causing to be administered, to the subject amount of a therapeutic agent effective to partially or fully suppress said cytokine storm.
