PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pretreatment liquid, when the pretreatment liquid is applied to a recording medium having a coating layer, drying is performed, and thereafter, an image is formed using water-based ink, capable of suppressing deterioration in a granular degree and deterioration in image glossiness.SOLUTION: Provided is (1) a pretreatment liquid comprising: a flocculant made of a water-soluble cation polymer obtained by copolymerizing monomers at least including amine and epihalohydrin; a surface regulation agent; a surfactant; a water-soluble organic solvent; and water. In the pretreatment liquid (1), (2) the surface regulation agent is a compound having a polyether-modified polydimethylsiloxane structure. In the pretreatment liquid (1) or (2), (3) the surfactant is an acethylene glycol-based surfactant. |
