[Classes 20 (iv) and 107] [Also in Group XXVI] In a road formed of concrete laid in sections, spaces between the sections are filled with a resilient fibrous material of porous structure, such as a felted fabric in strip or ribbon form, which is preferably proofed against fungus, bacteria, vermin or water and is pre-fabricated in lengths of uniform cross-section of angular retaining key formation. The fibrous material may be inserted alone or be covered with or encased in rubber or the like, or the space between the sections may be partly filled with bituminous or like material before and/or after insertion of the fibrous material, which may also be partially impregnated with a plastic, and be anchored in the space by waterproof adhesive. In Fig. 3, a felt core b is enclosed in a skin d of rubber etc.; the skin may be omitted from the top and bottom faces. In Fig. 4, a cruciform core b is employed together with a shallow filling e of bitumen &c. In another form the core b has angular grooves along the sides, while in Fig. 6, the core b has no skin and layers e, f, of bitumen are provided above and below the core. The road may be surfaced with rolled asphalt &c. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to U.S.A. Specifications 1,841,039 and 1,907,416. |
