TRANSITION CONTROL FOR HYBRID SWITCHED-MODE POWER SUPPLY (SMPS)

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide suitable transition control in a hybrid Switched-Mode Power Supply (SMPS).SOLUTION: A hybrid SMPS includes linear circuitry 301 configured to produce an output voltage proportional to a variable duty cycle when the SMPS operates in a linear mode, and hysteretic circuitry 302 configured to cause the duty cycle to assume one of two predetermined values when the SMPS operates in a hysteretic mode. The hybrid SMPS also includes transition circuitry 303 coupled to the linear circuitry 301 and to the hysteretic circuitry 302. The transition circuitry 303 is configured to bypass at least a portion of the linear circuitry 301 in response to the hybrid SMPS transitioning from the hysteretic mode to the linear mode.
