The safety belt device has an inflatable webbing (4) having a cavity formed between the webbing layers (9,10). A flexible gas lance (11) is inserted into the inflatable webbing, for connecting a gas generator (5) to the cavity. The gas generator is provided with an outlet opening that is spaced apart from upstream inlet of inflatable webbing. A mounting bracket (6) is provided for attaching the inflatable webbing to the motor car. The gas generator is fastened to a vehicle-fixed holder (1) which is arranged between the gas generator and the mounting bracket at the side of the gas lance.
