PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for estimating the deposition state of sediment in a methane fermentation tank with use of equipment.SOLUTION: At least any one of the side face and the bottom face of a methane fermentation tank with flat bottom is provided with: a plurality of thermometers for detecting sediment at different levels from the bottom face; and at least one liquid temperature thermometer for measuring the liquid temperature of fermentation liquid in the methane fermentation tank. In the case that the value measured by a thermometer for detecting sediment is lower than the value measured by the liquid temperature thermometer, it can be determined that the thermometer for detecting sediment showing a lower measurement value is embedded in sediment, while it can be determined that a thermometer for detecting sediment not showing a lower measurement value is not embedded in sediment. Consequently the deposition state of sediment in the methane fermentation tank can be estimated.
