A light source section (2) which constitutes this illumination device comprises a surface light emitting panel (4), and a light transmitting material (5) which is disposed on a light emitting surface side of the surface light emitting panel (4). The surface light emitting panel (4) has a light emitting region (4A) which radiates light, and non-light emitting regions (4B) which do not radiate light. The light transmitting material (5) has: a light incident surface (51) which opposes the light emitting region (4A); and inclined surfaces (53) which oppose the non-light emitting regions (4B). The light incident surface (51) is smaller than the light emitting region (4A). By configuring the present invention in such a manner, even if a positional shift has occurred between the surface light emitting panel (4) and the light transmitting material (5), the non-light emitting regions (4B) do not oppose the light incident surface (51) of the light transmitting material (5), and therefore sections forward of the non-light emitting regions (4B) are not dark sections; thus the appearance of the illumination device can be improved. Furthermore, the surface light emitting panel (4) and the light transmitting material (5) do not need to be disposed in relation to one another with a high degree of accuracy, and therefore a high yield can be achieved. |
