A method of regenerating a duplex ion-exchanger wherein the admixed sets of cation and anion exchange particles are in granules distinct in a physical magnitude such as specific gravity or size comprises physically separating the granules, regenerating each of the sets separately, and re-mixing prior to re-use. In one example a cation exchange resin having a specific gravity greater than 1.26 is separated from a mixture with an anion-exchange resin of specific gravity less than 1.26 by a sugar solution of specific gravity 1.26 or a little higher warmed to 50 DEG to 70 DEG C. to lower its viscosity. After stirring and settling and removing the lighter resin, in two stages, the sugar solution is drained off, and the heavier resin recovered. The resins are washed and regenerated with alkali and acid respectively. In another example, the cation-exchange resin is in granules ranging from 20 to 40 mesh and the anion-exchange resin ranges from 40 mesh to 60 mesh. Separation may then be effected by a 40 mesh screen. |
