In the application of polyelectrolyte films to a substrate by sequential adsorption of several layers of polyelectrolyte films with opposite charges, at least one polyelectrolyte layer contains polyvalent metal ion(s). An Independent claim is also included for articles (partly) coated with a polyelectrolyte film as above.
