A home gateway apparatus is provided. The home gateway apparatus comprises a first communication unit for receiving a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) request message including an internet group management protocol (IGMP) parameter and a plurality of conversion methods from a mobile device; an IGMP message generation unit for generating an IGMP message corresponding to the IGMP parameter; a second communication unit for transmitting the generated IGMP message to a content server and receiving media data of a multicast protocol type from the content server; and a protocol conversion unit for converting the media data of the multicast protocol type into media data of a unicast protocol type based on one method selected from the conversion methods. The first communication unit transmits the converted media data of the unicast protocol type to the mobile device.
