A plain bearing comprises a backing of relatively strong material such as steel, copper alloy or aluminium alloy, an intermediate layer of copper-lead-tin, and a thin bearing surface layer of electro-deposited tin-zinc alloy. The tin-zinc alloy may contain 1 to 30 per cent of zinc and the remainder tin, but 8 to 9 per cent zinc is preferred. The copper-lead alloy may contain up to about 40 per cent lead, but 25 per cent lead is preferred. In a modification, the intermediate layer is omitted. Specifications 525,364, 533,610 and 548,009, [all in Group XXXVI], are referred to.
|
