A communications jack has a housing with a plug aperture and a plurality of resilient spring members 122 extending into the plug aperture. Instead of using the spring members as contacts, plug contacts 130 are mounted on the springs and electrically connected to fixed contacts (150, Fig 3D), for examples via flanges 138. This gives a shorter signal path and reduces crosstalk. The springs may be metal with at least a partial insulating coating, or may be plastic. The plug contacts may all be the same shape but mounted in alternating directions. The fixed contacts may be mounted on a PCB which also includes capacitors (155, Fig 4). |
