1. A light emitting device comprising:
a protective element mounted on an electrically conductive member; and a base disposed on the electrically conductive member, wherein at least part of the protective element is covered with the base and a light emitting element is mounted on the top surface of the base, and said top surface of the base where the light emitting element is mounted is not coplanar with the electrically conductive member, and wherein a wire extends around a side surface of the base and downward to connect said light emitting element to said electrically conductive member, and wherein the electrically conductive member is disposed on a support body, and the support body and the base are formed in a single piece from the same material.
