In the present invention, provided is a camera apparatus and a method for controlling an operation of the camera apparatus, capable of allowing a user to conveniently control the operation of the camera apparatus according to a gesture of a subject inputted through a camera lens. The method according to the present invention comprises the steps of receiving an image inputted through a camera lens to generate an image frame; detecting a motion of a subject included in the image frame by comparing the image frame with at least one previous frame stored prior to the image frame; determining whether the motion of the subject is a gesture UI; and performing an operation corresponding to the gesture UI when it is determined that the motion is the gesture UI.
