PURPOSE: A multi-cylinder engine is provided to carry out optimized control for a deactivated cylinder using an oxygen sensor installed in each bank. CONSTITUTION: A multi-cylinder engine comprises one or more variable chambers, cylinders(1cyl,2cyl,3cyl,4cyl,5cyl,6cyl), and a controller. The variable cylinders perform an expansion stroke or are deactivated not to operate an exhaust or intake valve. The cylinders, except for the deactivated cylinders, perform an explosion stroke at regular intervals with respect to the rotational angle of a crank shaft. The controller activates or deactivates the variable cylinders according to the set load condition. The cylinders are divided by half into first and second banks in which respective oxygen sensors are installed. |
