A wiper for an ionising wire of an electrostatic separator includes a wiping means carried by a carriage to travel between a first location and a second location; an actuating means for driving movement of the carriage, the carriage travelling on a track; a controller for controlling an output direction of the actuating means; wherein the controller reverses the output direction of the actuating means at regular time intervals.
