In order to provide a solution for said problem, the invention relates to a method for providing positional data for a chip card (102), consisting of the following steps: - positional data of a localizing unit (130) is captured (202) or determined by a localizing unit (130) which is spatially separated from the chip card (102); - the positional data is transmitted (204) by the localization unit (130) to the chip card (102) via a contact-free interface (118) using a cryptographic protocol (114); a distance bounding protocol (112) is carried out between the chip card (102) and the localization unit (130), said distance bounding protocol (112) being performed with success when the spatial distance between the chip card (102) and the localization unit (130) does not exceed a predetermined maximum distance; a chip card function (110) is carried out when the distance bounding protocol (112) is performed with success, the chip card function (110) using the transmitted positional data as positional data which indicates the actual position of the chip card (102).
