An anode 10 for the protection of buried metallic structures, &c. comprises a solid elongated block which is made essentially of magnesium and is enclosed within a sheathing 12 of aluminium, or other metal or alloy more noble than the magnesium, with or without an interposed insulating layer of bitumen, &c., so that only one end thereof and, if desired, a minor part of its peripheral surface, is exposed. The anode may be cast, using the sheathing as a mould, and is provided with a steel terminal rod 11. Specifications 658,364 and 683,629 are referred to. |
