Class 69 (2) In a hydraulic pressure apparatus having a moving cylinder and a fixed double-acting piston, the cylinder comprises two telescopically mounted and interconnected members to each of which is imparted a uniform differential movement relative to the piston. A cylinder 1 is mounted on bearings 3, 5 for horizontal sliding movement on a cylindrical guide member 7 having fixed frame members 9, 11. Chains 13, 15 secured to the members 9, 11 are engaged by sprockets 23, 25 rotatably mounted on spindles 27 secured to a sleeve 21 slidable in the cylinder 1 and on a piston 40 and a piston-rod 37 secured to the guide member and sealed by washers 41, 43. A tube 45 in the centre of the piston-rod 37 engages the piston head 39 and a ported member 47 through which fluid is admitted to operate the sleeve and cylinder. Fluid for retraction is admitted to piston-rod 37 through a connection 49 thereon. Further chains 29, 31 are secured at one end to the cylinder 1 and at the other to the sprockets. In a modification the double chains and sprockets are replaced by a single sprocket on each spindle 27 and a single chain on each side passes round the sprocket and is secured to the cylinder at one end and at the other to the frame member 9 or 11. |
