PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary pedestal capable of performing polar axis alignment more easily than before.SOLUTION: A rotary pedestal 10 includes: a polar axis shaft 12 for rotatably supporting an optical instrument; a direction sensor 20 for detecting the azimuth angle α of the polar axis shaft 12; an elevation angle sensor 22 for detecting the elevation angle &bgr; of the polar axis shaft 12; and an operation part 26 for obtaining a difference between the azimuth angle α and true north and a difference between the elevation angle &bgr; and latitude where the polar axis shaft 12 is positioned.
