PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of accurately detecting the partial rising of a printing medium, and effectively restraining a print head from rubbing against or colliding with a printed surface of the printing medium.SOLUTION: The printer includes: a position detection part 5 having an optical element composed of a diaphragm 53 or a lens, a light source 52 and a light receiving element 54, for emitting light L1 from the light source 52, making diffusely reflected light L3, among reflected light reflected on a printed surface PS, incident on the light receiving element 54 through the optical element, and outputting, from the light receiving element 54, positional information concerning a position of the printed surface PS where the light L1 from the light source 52 is reflected; and a controller for stopping movement of a carriage when the partial rising of a printing medium P is detected on the basis of the positional information outputted from the light receiving element 54. The light receiving element 54 is disposed so that a light receiving surface 54a for receiving the diffusely reflected light L3 is parallel to an optical axis of the light L1 emitted from the light source 52 to the printed surface PS. |
