As a method which, when migrating a volume to which a snapshot function has been applied to a new storage device, performs the migration without depending on a snapshot data compression method for the migration source storage device, and moreover, without suspending exchange of data between the host computer and the storage device: First, migration of the data is performed for the volume (PVOL) that is to be the source of the snapshot, and subsequently, migration is performed in order from SVOL units of newer generations. The data to be migrated of each SVOL at this time are all of the data within the migration source storage device. The SVOL data that have been copied to the migration destination storage are compared with SVOL data that are newer by one generation than within the migration destination storage device, and on the basis of the result of the comparison, difference management information is created. If there is a difference, a VOL assignment management table is updated, and the difference data are stored to an area assigned within a pool. |
