<p>The method involves carrying-out combustion of air-fuel-mixtures in a combustion chamber of a petrol engine by spark ignition in an operating condition. A measuring signal characterizing the combustions is detected by a detection device. The combustions are divided into three-categories e.g. reference combustions, delay combustions and critical combustions, based on the signal, where pressure increase in the chamber exceeds a predetermined threshold level. The petrol engine is operated based on dividing of the combustions into the categories.</p> |
