PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent troubles in focus adjustment when an interchangeable lens with a built-in extender is mounted on a camera body which is not meant to be used therewith.SOLUTION: An interchangeable lens 101 includes an image capturing optical system and an in-lens CPU 102 capable of communicating with a camera body, and automatically adjusts focus using a signal from the camera body. The image capturing optical system includes an extender 113 which can be inserted into or retracted from an optical axis OA of the image capturing optical system without requiring the interchangeable lens to be mounted on or dismounted from the camera body to change brightness of the image capturing optical system. The in-lens CPU 102 sends a signal indicating MF (manual focus) to the camera body when the camera body is unable to perform automatic focus adjustment (N in S102) while the extender 113 is inserted into or retracted from the optical path (S101). |
