PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide BMP-1 isoforms for diagnosing and treating defects and disorders of bone and soft tissues, newly isolated variants of the BMP-1 isoforms, and isolated polynucleotides encoding polypeptides of the BMP-1 isoforms.SOLUTION: The present invention provides BMP-1 isoforms of BMP-1, which is procollagen C-proteinase having a specific amino acid sequence. The present invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions containing the BMP-1 isoforms for treating ischemic acute renal failure in an individual, where the pharmaceutical compositions are administered systemically to the individual after diagnosis of renal injury.
