PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for producing a sugar solution which can efficiently produce a high-concentration sugar solution.SOLUTION: A sugar solution producing apparatus 10A is the apparatus for producing a sugar solution from cellulose-containing biomass 26. The sugar solution producing apparatus 10A includes: a horizontal type reaction vessel 11 which has an agitating shaft 21 provided inside horizontally and an agitating blade 22 provided in the agitating shaft 21, and obtains saccharified slurry 33 by reacting the cellulose-containing biomass 26 with a diastatic enzyme 32, while agitating the cellulose content biomass 26 and the diastatic enzyme 32; a jacket 12; a vertical type reaction vessel 13 which obtains a saccharified solution 41 by saccharifying the saccharified slurry 33; and a saccharified slurry supply line L11.
