The device (1) has a push rod (2) exerting a thrust force (F) against a toothed rack (3). The push rod has a shoulder (15) to receive an elastic bidirectional suspension element (16) that is engaged between the push rod and a jacket (4) so as to simultaneously form an elastic axial suspension wedge to assure axial contact between the shoulder and a retaining stop of the jacket and an elastic radial suspension wedge to assure radial contact between the push rod and an internal wall (4I) of the jacket. The push rod has axial grooves in its portion covered by the element. An independent claim is also included for a power assisted steering module.
