A multiple-optical-unit spatial navigation system, to be used in surgical or therapeutic or bioptic operations, guided by images of the area of the patient to be operated on, comprises, in combination: two or more optical tracking units (UP, US2, USN) arranged so as to film the working area from different mutually complementary angles; a plurality of position sensors (S) fixed to the instruments used on the patient; a plurality of position sensors (SP) fixed on the patient; at least one monitor or display for the operator, displayed on which is the x-ray or echographic image, or scintigraphic or CAT image, or image of any other useful type, also represented in which is the effective instantaneous position of the instruments being used; and at least one computing unit designed to receive the signals from the optical tracking units (UP, US2, USN) for updating in real time the images corresponding to the patient shown on said display or monitor, modifying the position of the instruments with respect to said displayed images; wherein said optical tracking units (UP, US2, USN) are designed to detect the movements of the sensors (S) fixed with respect to the instruments and of the sensors (SP) fixed with respect to the patient, and to send the data regarding said movements to said computing unit.
|
