<PICT:0764859/III/1> <PICT:0764859/III/2> <PICT:0764859/III/3> <PICT:0764859/III/4> In distillation and like processes in whic liquids are contacted with gases or vapours in a series of zones through which the gases are fed upwardly, the liquid is fed to the centre of each zone and dispersion and entrainment thereof in the gas is effected centrifugally by means of stationary vanes inclined to the axis of the zone and in no part of their path parallel thereto. In Fig. 1 a cylindrical treatment vessel is divided into dispersion zones 2 by conduits 3 each connected by inclined radial vanes 4 to a central hollow hub 4a to which the liquid is fed by a pipe 5. Liquid not entrained by the gases collects on the wall 1 of the cylinder and falls into a gutter formed between the walls 3 from which it is fed to the pipe 5 leading to the next zone. In Fig. 4 liquid is fed to zone A by a downcomer 7 feeding into a pipe 8 leading into the bottom of the hub 4a while in zone B the downcomer 9 leads into a conical extension 11 surrounding the bottom of the hub. In Fig. 5 the zone dividing conduit 56 is provided with perforations 53 and spaced perforated screens 60, 61 are arranged above the vanes 57 and between the pipe 59 and the conduit 56. In Fig. 7 a series of radial vanes 67, 71 are separated by a cylinder 66. |
